Book Club #3- The Girl on the Train

Hi guys!

ย The book that we will be reviewing for the 3rd Book Club Series is: The Girl on the Train (here) by Paula Hawkins. The book has been having great reviews and will soon be adapted to a movie so we thought we would see what it’s all about.

Below are our quick reviews:

Di’s Opinion:

General Thoughts:

I really, really like this type of books; My favorite books of all time are thrillers, with crime and a bit of mystery. This book is just that. It’s a great book; it’s very entertaining and somehow funny, and you experience that all whilst you’re trying toย solve the mystery.

Positive Feedback:

I don’t want to spoil the book for those who haven’t read it yet, so I’m going to try to not give anything away. I really enjoyed when the tables turned and the “bad guy” of the story actually became the “good guy”. It proves the point of how you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and how things are not always as they seem; especially when they happen behind closed doors. I also really liked how this book showcased how sometimes people may seem to be in very different points of their life but if you look close enough you’ll see that they have more similarities than it appeared and are probably going through the same things. Really liked this book.

Negative Feedback:

The only thing I would say that is negative about this book is how they could’ve given the hints and red flags about what would end up happening, a little later along the storyline because the last few chapters I basically had predicted in the middle of the book. Other than that, it was really good.

Final Review:

5 stars (out of 5)

Why you should read this book:

You should read this book because, like I said before, it will give you a different perspective on people and how things really aren’t always as they seem. Also, if you use public transportation, you’ll look at the passengers differently lol.

Elle’s Opinion:

General Thoughts:

Loved how the book narrates in such a funny manner, making the lead character so likable. I also was not expecting the plot twist which is quite rare for the new mystery books in the market.

Positive Feedback:

It was very easy to read because the story is told in a funny manner rather than being very gloomy and dark. Also, I did not expect the twist until the very end.

Negative Feedback:

At times, the lead character was very annoying and made it seem like having an alcohol problem is more annoying than a serious matter. It sort of downgraded the seriousness of the issue which made it a bit childish

Final Review:

4 stars (out of 5)

Why you should read this book:

It is great as an easy read maybe on your journey o n the train (lol)

Ci’s Opinion:

General Thoughts:

I thought that it was an easy read that got your attention from the get-go. The story was really engaging and the main character was a mix of easy to relate to yet wince at some of her decisions. I thought that it was well written and that the wording didn’t get in the way of the story.

Positive Feedback:

The book was very engaging and really easy to read. I read it in a few days because I just wanted to know if my initial theory was right. Also, the story is pretty good at showing a range in a lot of its characters. Although there is an obvious main character, you get an opportunity to get to know others without sacrificing the main story.

Negative Feedback:

I love thrillers but maybe I have read too many because I kind of had it figured out halfway through the book. Also, some of the things that the characters did, were so far-fetched that they almost lost me. One thing is to have one or two characters with quirks, another is for every other one having a quirk.

Final Review:

4 stars (out of 5)

Why you should read this book:

You should read it because it’s a great story and it’s pretty addictive.

As for the book chosen for the month of May!
