Makeup has become a great passion of mine but before I started exploring with it, I relied on a few basic items that worked perfectly for me. Not every person wants to have a full face of makeup everyday but we still want to have reliable go-to products for quick fixes. Also as much as I love the great new techniques and products that have come out in the last few years, it is very easy to overdo or buy unnecessary products that do not match your lifestyle or even budget.
So I will give you the Basic Five for a makeup kit. It focuses on five important parts of your face that you should not overlook and that with time you can add on to.
1. Skin: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Mocha and Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Flawless Wear Concealer in Deep 2. T-Zone: Make Up Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation in 178 and Equate Blotting Paper 3. Eyebrows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Pomade and Gel in Chocolate and Brush #12 4. Eyes: Quo Eyeliner and Benefit They’re Real Mascara 5. Lips: MAC Chestnut Lip liner and Touch Lipstick
This is the most important part. Healthy skin is really important regardless to what you add to it (Skin routine here). However, not everyone has perfect skin and sometimes your skin just needs a quick pick-me-up. Because this is a basic guide I used a tinted moisturizer rather than foundation. Tinted moisturizers are great for daytime use and have a lighter coverage and look really natural. Even better, you don’t need any brushes or sponges since you can use your fingers to apply to your skin. That means that if you need added coverage or to touch up you can easily do it on the go. Another great product is a concealer that I used under my eyes to look less tired and to add dimension to my face.
Something that I notice many people sometimes neglect is their T-zone. Regardless of the reason as to why you may get a bit oilier on your forehead and nose you should always be prepared. I like carrying blotting paper or powder to avoid embarrassing oiliness, especially during the summer months when it is more prone to happen.
Eyebrows are really “in” and for a good reason. They frame your face and highlight the most important part of your face, your eyes. I personally do not naturally have thick eyebrows but I like filling them in to reap the benefits. The great thing about eyebrows is that you can make them as dramatic as you wish.
Of course the most important thing in your make-up kit is mascara and eyeliner. It makes a huge difference to your face and automatically makes you look awake. I personally do not believe you need to spend much money on these items because most products end up having similar results.
Last but not least is a trusty lipstick. A nice nude lip is a great way to finish off a daytime look. I am in love with MAC lipsticks as they were the first high end brand I have ever used and the lipstick Touch is one of my favorite nudes. You can of course find a cheaper alternative that makes you feel confident and that suits you.
All together this is the final look. As you can see it is pretty simple and does not take much work. You can of course tweak it to your needs as this is simply a basics guide; with time and experience you can add blush or if you prefer a red lip; that would be perfect as well. That is the beauty of make-up you can customize it to your preferences and budget!
