So Valentine’s Day is around the corner so our consumerist hearts are beating with excitement as we look for the perfect token of our love. I have to admit that I am a sucker for holidays. I love everything about it especially celebrating different milestones in our lives. However, some holidays can get old/annoying since it is so hard to come up with innovative ideas that actually make sense and are useful. I have compiled a list of gift ideas ranging from things that are expected but with some specific recommendations as well as some that are a bit outside the box. After all, the most fun part of holidays is the exchange of gifts:
Yup, you know exactly what I will say. Ladies cologne for men is a great gift idea since that way he will already know what you like him to smell like. Also, smell is one of the most important senses for memory, so you could forever be reminded of this day or each other based on the scent you choose. Personally, I am currently loving Dior Sauvage on my boyfriend. FUN FACT: it was actually my cousin’s Christmas present for him and I really like it. Another idea for basics include a wallet and watch. Wallets are a bit trickier, in my opinion, because it depends on whether he has one already or not. If this is his first wallet, then I advise to get a thin one so he gets used to the idea. On the other hand, if you’re getting him another wallet then it gets a bit trickier. Not every man (or even woman) has more than one wallet, so are you replacing it? Do you want it to be a fashion statement? Do you want him to use it everyday or on special occasions? What is his style? Do you want him to change his style a bit? Also, I feel like you should ask the same questions about the watch.
Next up, if you have already exhausted the basics list or wish to be part of a Valentine’s Day activity this is the list for you. So besides movies, I think that going to a musical would be a great idea. Honestly, you do not need to be a fan of musicals to like classics such as the Lion King and Wicked for example. Another entertainment alternative would be something like Cirque du Soleil or even a concert. With this in mind, excursions and activities that get you from one place to another are great ideas. This could include trips to nearby towns to explore and do tourist-y things. In fact, even a staycation could be fun and give you a chance to look at your city with different eyes. Even more extreme than that are things such as hot air balloon rides, do an extreme sport (bungee-jumping anyone?), the options are endless depending on the type of couple and sometimes the weather in your city.
This one is for all you creative souls that cannot find the perfect gift in stores. For example, a couple of years back I couldn’t decide on what to get my boyfriend. So I made a basket full of little things that make my boyfriend who he is: a business magazine, his favorite candy, a water-resistant phone case, flip-flops, boxers, massage oils, gift cards for his favorite stores, etc. This is the least time and sweat consuming alternative in my opinion. But If you really want to get your hands dirty there’s many more things you can do. Baking is a great option, I have made a giant cookie that spelled out I (heart) you in the past. Or even making a whole meal would be a great thoughtful gift. Another thing you can make is a scrapbook filled with pictures and mementos of your relationship. Even more, if you have a talent such as singing you can write a song, you can make them a painting, use your talent on your muse. And if none of these tickle your fancy, you can always go on websites like Pinterest and find ideas to inspire you.
I hope this list has at least gotten you excited about this coming Valentine’s Day. Let me know how yours turns out!
